Melbourne CNY Celebrations

Chinese New Year in Melbourne was somewhat spectacular with the many stalls and ambience that were setup at various locations around Victoria at different occasions during the festive season. It wasn’t quite “Chinese” in a lot of sense because some stalls sold food like “Nasi Lemak” or “Satay”.

Without realising, it was the end of Chinese New Year already. Our celebrations in Melbourne were as evident as the photos you see on this blog.

Heal Amelia’s Life

I was watching Today Tonight and there’s this girl who suffers a chronic disease of being sensitive towards chemicals and etc, she has to live indoors – has the be clean off chemicals / dust / mould etc. otherwise she would feel fatigue. She’s been house-bound for 3 yrs now and prior to this was an aspiring stylist / writer. I teared up watching her story.

Often we take things for granted. We take independence for granted. Sometimes, we’re not even doing enough while we have the opportunity. We’re able-bodied.

From an excerpt on Today Tonight website:

“In the last three years she’s been isolated, unable to leave a tiny room, and says the slightest breath of air from the outside world could cause her to collapse, and even die.

Eight years ago Amelia was a vibrant, young fashion designer, writer and magazine stylist. She had big dreams of travelling to New York and writing for US Vogue.”

Miss Pole Dance Southeast Asia

For polers in Southeast Asia, save the date on 28 April 2012. There will be a time where I’ll return to conquer Southeast Asia, still in prep-mode!

Last year’s winner – Hanna from Bobbi’s Pole Studio Singapore, looked like this:

Awesome! Really can’t wait.

Chinese Dragon New Year Reunion 2012

CNY in Melbourne is not the same like back home in Malaysia with a lot of exchange of mandarin oranges, cookies and red packets (angpows). It’s a little more subdued here, although with the large population of Chinese (probably more than in Malaysia) – Melbourne almost feels like Asia at times, especially in the city. My friends and I still managed a little get together reunion to usher the dragon new year. We went to Eddy’s for dinner. I think this meal really beats all the meals I’ve had in my entire CNY reunion dinners – with the right spread of dishes, and prover “fengshui-like” names related to CNY. Apparently it had to be more than a certain number of dishes like 7 or something. There were too much food though, but all in the name of abundance, to usher the new year in abundance of wealth, health and prosperity! Woohoo!

Yup, the cheongsam-fan on the right had to get her top from ebay at USD$12. ;)

Lo sang!

Josiah’s first angpow out for the year. Nice.

A little something to be in the mood of CNY. Hope you had a great one yourself.

Hennessy VSOP NYX Launch in KL

I kind of forgot what parties in Malaysia are like. It was yet another eye opener when I went to the Hennessy VSOP Privilege Collection NYX. The party was really awesome, it’s a whole big do with a big setup at the shopping centre with a display of their newly launched bottle, with sexy ladies dressed in space outfit ushering guests to the venue in the next building. Guests were prompted to sign in first to receive their white glove marked “Hennessy” before heading to the party venue at Vertigo. Very carefully executed, from a brand standpoint.

Dancers in LED outfits against the lights in the background.

Hennessy MJ gloves.

It’s nice to head back to Malaysia for awesome parties like these once in a while. Too much of it too could lose oneself.
