Are Australians Ageing Gracefully? Vaseline Tells Us.

Product Talk by Nuffnang: Vaseline Dry Skin Conditioning Lotion

Australia has harsh weather conditions, most of the time dry regardless of extreme cold, hot or normal. Now, during winter it is hard to maintain skin’s smoothness and suppleness. Dry skin, also referred to as xerosis is a common problem for many people. Dry skin can also be itchy and become very sensitive, resulting in eczema and dermatitis. Symptoms such as itching, flaking of the skin, cracking and scaliness all point to you having very dry skin and this requires attention. The prevention of excessive loss of moisture to prevent dry skin is important to prevent further complication of dry skin. Our attempt to keep warm using central heating in the home, car and office contribute to drying out of the skin.

Intake of adequate fluids become very important as the dehydrating effect of heating needs to be over come and excessive loss of moisture needs to be replaced. How much water can one drink? I’m not a fan of drinking fluids so I “splat” on a lot of lotion on me daily.

Did you know? Simple daily routines, such as bathing and towel drying, may actually promote dry skin. Apparently it removes the skin’s ‘Acid Mantel’ and in the long run causes more moisture loss than gain.

Are Australians Ageing Gracefully?

New research by Vaseline reveals that nearly half of all Australians (48%) are ageing far from gracefully, with dry skin leading to the appearance of premature ageing such as sagging and wrinkling. A lack of daily moisturising from Aussie women contributes to the problem, and comparisons to other countries around the world make this even more apparent. Only 40% of Australians are using a body lotion regularly compared to over 89% in other markets like Brazil, South Africa & Philippines. This alarming situation is worsened once you add our harsh climate to the mix, with large fluctuations in humidity and temperature wreaking havoc on our skin and making it more susceptible to being dry, dull and therefore displaying signs of premature ageing.

The research study also highlighted that Australian women appear to have a non-preventative mind set about skin problems, meaning Aussie women will wait for problems to manifest and then escalate before they are treated. They are continuously experiencing problems with dry skin and cracked heels, yet they are not taking any preventive measures. Not only are Aussie women battling with dry skin, they have the highest number of dry skin related problems as a result.

My Feedback About the Lotion

I’d suggest placing the lotion on your work desk because you can see it, so you will remember to put it on and the smell lifts up your work area. Chances are – your colleagues might want to try it out too. Majority of my past and present colleagues both male and female have a bottle of lotion on their table. Packaging wise, great – unisex enough and not sissy at all for the metrosexual man.

I am a big fan of smell and I can say that it smells like a mixture of vanilla and orange. It smells great, very fresh with the citrus essence.

The lotion is not too thick and not too watery too. It is non greasy when I rub them onto my palms together. Skin feels soft afterwards. After 10 minutes, smell stills linger but it doesn’t grease up like most lotions do, so I’m not putting lotion stains on my computer keyboard!

I’d also add that this is great for pole-dancers (ahem, sorry I just had to!) because we usually stay away from lotion 12 hours before a pole practice in case we slip off the pole and if anything at all, we use a special type of drying lotion or wax to stick onto pole.

I’m all about vanity. Come on, in this modern day and age – I’d do what it takes to keep me looking under 30 before I reach 30…at all costs, at less than AUD$66 per year maybe, assuming you use six 750mL bottles per year? With lots of vitamins A, E and B5 – that’s all I need to know about the lotion I’m using.

What this lotion reminds me of? Home. My parents back in Malaysia have been using Vaseline for years now. It smells pretty similar but definitely improved, and more of a tangerine smell.

Alumbra – Right Crowd & Ambience

That night at Alumbra was the start of Josiah’s off-season (at work) so we thought of having a little fun at Alumbra and danced the night away… with the crew but minus the few of the crew members. There are a few hip Asian nights in Melbourne but this one is on my favourite list right now because of the relevance of the crowd and ambience.

Forever Fridays at Alumbra (Docklands, Melbourne)

Address: Shed 9, Central Pier, 161 Harbour Espanade, Docklands, Victoria, Australia.(Opposite Etihad Stadium (parking on central pier $15 or carparks located nearby) www.alumbra.com.au

Bangers & Mash. Top 40. Cheese + Disco | island bar Jon Bling. Fluke. The Supremes. Paolo Laurel. JVD. LeonD. Will Rock. agentK + J-Nee on the congas! 9.30pm – 3.30am (times may change on special event nights) Guestlist closes 2am, Free List closes 12am. Presented by the party boys & girls of Kamp Nokturnal, Prime8 & Partners in Crime | RnB Joints & Jams | main room Atomik. Slender. Nyd. Elcid. Mich & Mc Naps on da mic. Dresscode: slick & smart casual, collars encouraged on guys! Price: $20 guest list / $25 general

Over 18+ event. Management reserves all rights to refuse entry. Approved Photo ID required (passport, keypass, driver’s license). The one thing that could turn people off is their exclusivity, they need to ensure that you’re dress appropriately for the club and the standard requirements. The good thing is that it vets off the “less-cool” people.

As you walk in (after guys go through the security scan), you can pay at the counter or if you have pre-booked and have a table in the VIP section upstairs, you walk right through (*winks*).

In the VIP section, they prepare some fruits for guests to line their stomach for the alcohol (really?).

You toast as your chaperone (assigned to you) pours you your drink.

Finger food – spring rolls.

The bling couple.

There’s the Buddha’s head at every bar. I’m not sure if this means “protection” or for Buddhists – “Oh no, Buddha is looking at me drink, dance and pick up guys / girls (whichever is relevant). To me, it’s a piece of art.

It’s art.

I’m all smiles with my fav Liziti.

Jen pinches Han for being naughty – I wonder what it was!

Walking down from the VIP section towards the dance floor.

I watched everyone dance away and joined in on the fun too.

Seriously, the Buddha’s head is everywhere in the club.

The smoking area.

People dancing in this other room, different DJs for different rooms.

Yet another Buddha at the table as you enter the club.

At the end of the night, we were exhausted because we had danced our legs off.

The ambience was a calming one with a boat right outside of the club. It was a bit of walk towards the car parked closer to the other office buildings, but our bodies were well warmed up to continue the “exercise”.

Just a recap of the interior I didn’t manage to capture as well. I lifted this off the Forever Friday website.

Colours and many Buddha heads.

The end of the night!

Yes, I danced my feet off my body.

I currently love this club because the crowd is relevant. Not too young and not too old. Just right. No dramas, everyone’s pretty decent (or at least I think so, or I haven’t been aware of any). Maybe because of the tight security.

GradSolutions: Got Balls?

I’ve got balls alright. Okay, that didn’t sound quite right at all.

GradSolutions, the career consultancy firm I mentioned a few entries earlier is running a competition I could not refuse. I submitted two photos.

The ultimate winning prize is an iPad. The catch? Four stressballs. That’s it. Picked them up from the GradSolutions office and had a play with photo-taking.

Now that my photos have made it to their Facebook page, I could maximise my winning chances even more by getting votes by visiting their Facebook Page and “LIKE” my submission bearing in mind that everyone has to “LIKE” the main Facebook page first before accessing to “LIKE”ing the photos, and the photos with the most “LIKE”s win.

Here are my two entries that made it to their Facebook Page:

“GradSolutions helps me achieve perfection. The right balance in life.”

Fun fun fun. Maybe I could win an iPad or something. Hmmm…

GradSolutions at The Big Meet, Melbourne

The cultural vibrancy that international students have brought to Melbourne city is not hard to find. The sector directly employs tons – and indirectly would support thousands more jobs through industries such as hospitality, construction and retail, to name a few. Unemployment in Australia is low at this point, but at the heart of the issue for international students who are looking to stay and work in Australia – a slow, expensive and difficult visa system that should be scrapped for a student visa program that is cheaper, quicker and easier. Still, many flock to Australia in search of a better life. For the many international students who have permanent residency in Australia, they still find it tough to be employed, and these are talented people. Talented people who deserve an opportunity.

The Big Meet Careers Expo in Melbourne last Monday saw many people; local and international seek job opportunities in the private and government sector, of the many exhibitor booths that were present. I went to have a look at the expo myself together with my manager for job purpose – obtaining new leads for our business and also to support GradSolutions, like I did last year.

Indeed there was a difference between last year and this year. Last year it was pretty much of the same crowd, but the ambience was not as classy and comfortable as this one at The Palladium, Crown. There were alot more freebies to be given out as well. Just walking around all the booths, you would have at least obtained 10 items on hand including free ice-cream, lollies, rulers and etc.

Many international students visited the career expo to have a chance at being employed.

GradSolutions is able to assist these people who are would like to be noticed.

You may get a free initial appointment from GradSolutions.

GradSolutions registered interested parties, so they can follow up with these bunch of people.

It is definitely a step to employment.

It can be daunting, to not be hired. There would be a feeling of inadequacy.

GradSolutions with their professional training, can help to groom job candidates.

“Grad Solutions a career consultancy firm. Just to make everything clear first, we are not a job agency, we are not a recruitment agency either, we are a career consultancy firm. What we do is, we mostly help international students in getting a job in Melbourne, in Australia. We basically improve your personal development skills. If you have difficulties in writing your resume, covering letter, interview skills, you have come to the right place,” explains Maria Alda, one of the Marketing Managers at GradSolutions alongside Jesse Oey.

Grad Solutions Is Back This Year!

Definition of beggar:

1. One who solicits alms for a living.
2. An impoverished person; a pauper.

We do not want to end up as a beggar because we did not try to seek for a job. I am sure all beggars have their stories to tell and some must be really tragic. I also know some might jest “Arghhh, can’t get a job, I might as well become a beggar!”

Beggars - When you think all is lost, you might opt for the best solution; to beg. When I say beg, it’s not to beg for help but to beg for money on the streets. Even through begging, strategies must be applied. What kind of strategies will you deploy to get a job, as a beggar or not? Not that I condone begging!

What do you do to get through a job? Start by attending a career fair. Start with The Big Meet Melbourne.
