Great Talent Must Be Recognised

In the hot and sunny weather on Sunday afternoon, I alerted my hubby about some familiar sound of harmonicas and guitar-playing. “It had to be that Japanese cowboy,” I told myself. There was just something quite distinct about his music. Was it in his music beats, the tapping of his left foot that played the drums or was it the harmonica? His voice was good, don’t get me wrong, but it was the music beat to the blues that was more enticing in the world of buskers in the heart of the city where many would stop to hear him finish up the entire song before placing some coins or a note and you’d hear him say “THANK YOU!” really loudly, as if it was part of his song, not distracted by his music tune.

His name is George Kamikawa and he had won the Busker’s Award last year and I read in his newspaper article in his guitar box, that the Mayor condoned him to play more in the city to lift the standards of the buskers in Melbourne, ward off “bogans” in the city and deter social illnesses of some sort to which he replied – was an unfair statement. Very humble indeed.

I requested to take a photo with him. He is a music star in his own rights and has his own CD. It was an honour to have a photo taken with such pure talent.
