A Real Scooter Ride

We’ve had this metallic blue Vespa for half a year now, and now that Josiah’s home – we have a chance to really enjoy the scooter ride since Spring is almost over and Summer is near. In Melbourne, it’s so safe to ride a scooter (or bicycle) on the roads and really, there is no need to buy a car for now unless we’re quite far from the city.

We wanted to get ourselves proper jacket and helmet which are really crucial for safety.

I have been getting away by wearing Josiah’s keirin helmet (used in the bicycle race) – below in white. By the way, this is not my white scooter, we have a blue metallic one. Next thing I know, people will be asking me about my white scooter because of this photo.

We headed over to Vespa House to get our jackets and helmets.

Saying goodbye to normal jacket / jumper / sweaters (those I can find in my wardrobe) as well as wrong helmet. Say hello to proper and safe attire.

Above: Powerbar jumper, Guess jeans and Nike shoes.

I know I look like a Space girl but, it’s time to opt for a different look now. Plus, this keirin helmet has no visor!

First things first, jacket. Tried on this red trenchcoat (packed with padding or protection inside). I loved the red (obviously!).

Then, tried on the Corazzo jacket. Perfect!

Matches the new Momo helmet too.

We could wear the same jacket. As you can see in this photo…

Ä: Behind every woman is a successful man.
B: Behind every successful woman is a man.

Which is applicable? Geez, can’t believe a bulky jacket could make me feel so powerful.

Another picture – I can never have enough photos!

The next time around to pick up our purchased items, I’m already in my real outfit. Latex pants and boots?

The box is already a design of its own.

Oh so cute – myjojo can be so animated.

Awesome!!

My husband.

Can I pull off the scooter-girl look?

The scooter couple in matching outfits. Oh I love it!!

Never have enough photos.

Warning: Do not try this while you are on the bike! Only pro-camwhores can attempt this. It’s okay in Melbourne but totally unsafe in Malaysia – you don’t want your nice Canon Ixus 100 IS snatched away from you.

Nice helmets.

Swishhh swoosh!

This was the day with all the groceries in my back pack, I end up feeling really tired. Myjojo muffles my face up with the soft Momo helmet bag.

So here’s a typical ride around Melbourne. Short clip. Supermom, don’t freak out! It’s not that fast – quite slow and safe actually.

Cutting in between cars to get to the front of the queue. *grins*

It’s really important to practise these few measures as a pillion rider on the scooter (applies to bikes too, I guess?)

1. Don’t wear so much jewellery (or real ones) on the bike. My onyx stone came off my ring once.
2. Keep your knees in and don’t stick your hands or legs out while on the bike.
3. Do not distract the driver by saying – “Oh look at that woman crossing the street!” or anything like that.
4. Do not transfer your weight abruptly on the bike, help your partner keep balance on the bike.
5. Wear proper footwear (proper shoes, not slippers or high heels) so if anything happens, you have foot support.
6. Best to wear a proper padded bike jacket. You’d just look more muscular.
7. Don’t worry about the hair – it will be flat anyway when you put on the helmet.
8. Last but not least, you must have trust in your driver and not freak him out.
