Merdeka in Melbourne

My first and best Merdeka ever. In Melbourne. Seems like Malaysians have brought their independence to Melbourne but most importantly, not forgetting our roots and where we came from, we are proud of what Malaysia has achieved. My husband is working for the Malaysian government. I will do anything in support of Malaysia, in whatever I believe in, for the benefit of Malaysia.

This time, I believed Malaysians in Melbourne deserved to have a good night out. University students from Malaysia in Melbourne flocked over to CQ Bar to enjoy special guest DJs Lapsap and Kenny Sia flown all the way from Malaysia. I was part of that team and I had mighty fun.

Lunch earlier that day at Gold Leaf Restaurant, Docklands. Kenny was obviously pleased with the food as you can see in the photo. DJ Xu was also munching away, DJ Blink was checking out Kenny’s reaction towards food and DJ Ashley Bong tried to distract DJ Xu from munching away. Lolz.

De and I.

The yummy food.

Us and the organisers.

Then, I caught up with Kenny a little bit and caught sight of some interesting things along the way, like a shoe door handle.

Some graffiti outside Melbourne Central. This is Lapsap style, no? Graffiti, vibrance and Nike!!! Yes, I stole myjojo’s jacket. I have it in another colour and can combine one colour each.

Yep, this is Kenny Sia staring at a sequined piggy bank. ;)

Kenny Sia is really one very humble guy, down to earth. Someone who just loves travelling and knows how to enjoy life without living life in an exorbitant manner. Approachable and easy-going, Kenny’s hardworking and busy schedule might make him unreachable for most of his girl fans, but hey – at night, should have seen how Kenny was mobbed by his fans, they practically kissed him in adoration! When we walked in that night, I heard some girl say, “Hey, Kenny Sia! It’s Kenny Sia – OMG! OMG!”

ZOMG it’s Kenny Sia!

So that night, I didn’t know what to wear at first and decided to go in my favourite white cheongsam. The last time I wore this was on one of my first few dates with Josiah.

We went to CQ Bar early at around 9pm and Kenny already had fans, friends of people who could not make it for the party due to assignments and was really keen on having his signature.

We took tons of photos with random people but of course, Kenny took a 100x more photos.

Then, we were interviewed by UnseenTV.tv.

Feryx Lim was the hot host who interviewed me. It will be released soon. I am a little more confident in front of the camera now, but there’s still something about my speech. Like my teeth’s still giving me problem or something. Yes, the braces!

L-R: Feryx, Xu, Kenny, Blink, Kim.

This is Lapsap style. Lapsap = Rubbish (Cantonese). It is the rubbish of music, a metaphor for their fusion of music where they mix beats and music of all spectrums.

Kenny and I hosted the Merdeka countdown twice that night at 12am (with DJ Chris Ooi) and 2am (where Lapsap played upstairs).

We also sang Negaraku! So patriotic alright, See, Straight legs.

It was lovely to see the Malaysian support.

Kenny was of course a real chick-magnet.

Check out the arm, like pushing me away so she could take photos with Kenny. Hahahahahahahaha.

I told you he was mobbed by girls! He just seemed more humble on his blog.

The team – Dash & WTF Productions. This is the “ketam” pose.

So during our first countdown, we briefly informed DJ Chris Ooi (above) that we were going to have Negaraku played and I secretly wondered what song was to be played. That weekend in preparation to this night, I kept playing “I Gotta Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas over and over again just because I love it and was in the mood for it. After Negaraku, DJ Chris played that song. AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then, I took over DJ-ing and he chilled.

p/s: Above – just kidding! I can’t DJ for nuts.

Everyone was game for a good photo.

DJ Ashley Bong spinned before the Lapsap crew.

DJ Blink from Lapsap was like a school teacher instructing the crowd to start dancing. (hehe)

“Everyone put your hands up in the ayyyyyyyy eahhhhhhhh (air)”

The crowd was really hyped up and went crazy over Lapsap’s music.

Movement. Lights. Beats. Dance.

It was a good night out.

N-Day do in Melbourne

By JOSHUA FOONG

MELBOURNE: While Merdeka celebrations in Malaysia are being celebrated in moderate scales, 1,500 young Malaysians in Melbourne celebrated the National Day in a big way.

The countdown party, organised by Malaysian-owned production houses Dash and WTF, was held at the CQ Bar in Melbourne’s Central Business District with the support of Malaysian university students clubs from RMIT, Monash and the Melbourne University.

Celebrity bloggers Kenny Sia and model Kim Ong were flown in as emcees to add a local touch to the event that had Malaysian DJs LapSap spinning some current hits.

The event was recorded by Australian Internet TV channel, Unseen TV.

“By 11pm, the two floors of CQ Bar were filled to the brim,” said Sia.

“The party was vibrant and everyone was in high spirits and well-behaved,” he added, saying that the party was a “truly Malaysian affair” as all races joined in the activities that were planned for the night.

The highlight was the countdown itself, with Sia and Ong leading the revellers in shouting Merdeka three times, followed by the singing of the national anthem.

They repeated these at 2am so as to be in sync with Malaysian time.

“The enthusiasm and patriotism were felt throughout the night,” said Sia, adding that his role that night was the best ever that he had experienced.
