My problem with iinet has been resolved by my modem company, Linksys. Fantastic isn’t it. Iinet hires a gazillion staff of support personnel who cannot resolve anything after going through the entire process of troubleshooting with me for 5 hours, each time getting cut off and then reconnecting to a different person who has to understand my problem all over again. I’m glad that whole episode is over and done. *fingers crossed* I actually went crazy and ballistic over the phone. I actually get ridiculous responses like:
“Oh, you’re saying that your internet and DSL lights are flickering, but on my system your network has stopped responding. Wait, I think my system is not working.”
“You said you used iinet before with Linksys modem for 6 months last year? It seems that the model is not compatible with our service. You may have to get another one.”
How weird is that? Anyway, over and done with. My anger has dissolved into the food I’ve been eating lately.
Remember I said I wanted to share some stuff with you. While studying graphic design in Melbourne, I’m also working part-time at a restaurant. I could use some additional income to pay my groceries. I’m sure looking to get an office job, but nobody would hire me for only three days a week. Can’t say where I am working, because some details should be kept private.
But, definitely working at a restaurant Gordon Ramsay definitely have nothing to pick on in terms of quality of food, cleanliness, freshness and so much more. It’s a top quality restaurant with much to experience from.
My favourite Eye Fillet Gorgonzola Steak.
Honey Lamb Salad.
Flourless Cake Ice-Cream
Apart from taking orders, carrying heavy plates and serving people, I also take the time to enjoy food. I’ve now visited several places in Melbourne since this is a sin city for food.
One of them, was The Meat & Wine Company at Southbank.
The Meat & Wine Company
Mmm…..beef capaccio! My absolute favourite.
Sean with his huge appetite.
My hubby enjoying his food.
I love his new army haircut. So cute. Oh I love my momo hat myjojo got for me from Japan. So comfy!
Dim Sum @ Sharkfin House
131 Little Bourke Street
http://www.sharkfinhouse.com.au
Myjojo and I also had dim sum one day at Chinatown. As usual, I ordered my favourite chicken feet.
I know it looks gross, but it’s really yummy. The spicy one is better.
Oriental Spoon
254 La Trobe Street
http://www.lifestylefood.com.au/restaurants/oriental-spoon
The size of most dishes are enough for two. The first time you go there, you might over-order and spend about $20-30 per person. On your second visit, you’d definitely know what to order already. I ordered this Bibimbap dish and it was enough for myjojo and I to share and we are both quite reasonable large munchers. Not forgetting the additional kimchi they serve as side dish (for free), this was enough for the both of us and we kept it reasonably low at around $10-15 per head.
Soul Mama
St Kilda Seabaths 10-18 Jacka Boulevard
www.soulmama.com.au
Vegetarian Restaurant
Absolutely yummy stuff. Vegetarian food, and they’re not tasteless. Buffet style mostly – you just pick out your food in the huge plate enough for 2 persons. Great ambience overlooking the St. Kilda beach too.
Golden Monkey
389 Lonsdale Street
www.goldenmonkey.com.au
Golden Monkey is a great bar and lounge concept with lots of drinks to offer and also yummy dim sum by their Shanghainese chef. Food is a little bit pricey, just because it’s a bar and not meant to be a sit-down restaurant although they have a good food menu of at least 30 dim sum selection.
Transplant 2009 – AFA Vic Young Bloods
I also managed to go for an advertising networking session organised by the Advertising Federation of Australia for Transplant 09 (Part 2), where Peter Biggs, the Managing Director of BBDO Melbourne shared his views on advertising. He focused largely on leadership skills, drawing analogies from his favourite poets, writers and icons. Biggs highlighted that he rarely shows his weak emotions when put under duress. For example, waking up on the wrong side of the bed and not showing that he is moody when he steps into the office. When asked what his biggest mistake was ever, he said it was “hiring the wrong people”. His talk was really inspirational and it was good to meet people in the advertising industry just to see what the culture is really like in Australia. People here work quite differently compared to Malaysia (obviously) and even in agencies, most of them work from 9am-5pm, unlike Malaysian ad agencies (or companies) that work from a typical 10am-9pm.

Hosanna Church’s 6th Anniversary Celebration
488 Swanston St.
My graphic design course mate Johnny wanted the few of us to attend his church’s function, so I obliged. I just didn’t expect to go to a Korean-based church. It was something new. I had not seen so many Koreans before at one time. I only used to watch them on TV. There were several performances. First, everyone were seated and they played some videos on the projector screen to entertain the church-goers, like America’s Funniest Home Video, Riverdance (Irish dance), and some extreme sports. Then, there was a group of at least 10 singers onstage and another 6 musicians or something that sang common hymns while everyone sang in their seats. Some performances followed, then announcements and finally the pastor preached in Korean with an English translator translating every single line.
A Korean percussion group.
Hip-hop dance, what Koreans do best in.
A drama on “Liberation”.
It was quite an unusual experience definitely worth a visit, but I can’t find myself relating to its way of service as much. But wait, I better say no more, as I don’t visit church so often.
Dressing Up
I love my brooch. I know “Drop Dead Diva” mentions that wearing brooch are only for older people but to me, what the heck, I love it. I don’t feel a day older wearing my favourite cycling brooch. *grins*
Yes it has been cold in Melbourne.
I have to keep myself wrapped up at all times.
Only recently I was willing to bare my toes as spring is drawing closer.
DJ Chris Ooi said I look like a Russian in this hat.
Was waiting for Josiah to have his haircut done.
I keep my feet warm even at home!
Miscellaneous Sightings
At our scooter shop where we looked for our Momo helmets. Cute calendars.
Then, we had a drink each at a nearby cafe. You’ll find that many restaurants and cafes in Melbourne tend to adopt the recycling / antique interior. Anything and everything goes. Anything junk and old would be seen as art.
Sunglasses store.
A bookstore.
Unusual sunnies.
Graffiti and bicycles.
More graffiti art with Josiah in his Nike outfit.
That’s how the sky looks on a typical Winter-Spring day.
I walked past and found King Henry VIII and one of his wives at a nearby restaurant. The things I find in Melbourne are just crazy, isn’t it?
Last but not least.
