If you haven’t already logged on to www.lovemedo.com.my, you can check this entry out. On Friday, the “Love Me Do” contest came to an end wishing all final three couples well as they embarked on a life-long journey together after a competition of much team-effort, fun and bonding.
It was a competition based purely on votes and the team at Berjaya Hotels and Resorts (BHR) only hosted the series of events for the public (nationwide and worldwide) to determine the deserving couple. It was a tough one, and it was down to top three couples who were eligible. I shortlisted four deserving couples, in my last two entries on this contest. See, my predictions were right! *cheeky grin*. Speaking of grinning, all three couples went home grinning taking something home with them. As you already know, the winning couple wins an entire wedding worth RM100,000 and the other runner-up couples win a few days’ stay at that same hotel in Langkawi and more from the wedding photography and all the sessions of tips of taking care of their skin and so much more to list here, you might as well check out their blogs while the lovemedo.com.my website is still up.
I was invited for the announcement of the winning couple at Bespoked (groom’s tailor) at One Utama.
The announcement that day saw a few speeches from the sponsors, the host (BHR) thanking the sponsors and media, as well as the top three couples thanking everyone for supporting their journey throughout the competition. The event was complete with some refreshments, a few video and slide presentations of the journey of all the couples thusfar and also “important numbers” that were highlighted.
This successful campaign, entirely carried out by BHR themselves (without engaging any creative agencies) has their lovemedo.com.my website attracting over 400k visitors since last November and over 800k page views with more than 1k fans on their Facebook fan page and more than 1800 couples registering to participate. This competition was conceptualised by the Director of Marketing Communications Ms. Thang Han-Ni who wanted to create the nation’s first online reality wedding competition. Realising the power of the web as a tool to reach out to the public, online voting was the method to determine the winning couple and the final decision had nothing to do with the organisers. BHR also provide updates via e-newsletters for subscribers on their website.

The brainchild of the entire competition and campaign. Ms. Thang Han-Ni. She talked much about passion between the couples. How she and her team of six ladies shortlisted the 1800 over couples in their answers through passion through words and their couple-effort. That was their only task besides coordinating the entire event. Then, passion between the participating couples in persevering through the competition. I’d say that the real passion came from within her to conceptualise a love competition. Hehehe. Ms. Thang spoke highly of the winning couple that they seemed to have humble beginnings, in the press interview later on. Okay, I’m giving away a little bit on who might be the winner. I’ll hurry now.
The doctor-doctor couple came in third place – Dr. Lim and wife.
It was down to the last two couples – looking rather tensed waiting for results.
Teo Seh Kiat & Yap Huay Sean (Kelvin & Kimberly) couldn’t believe their ears when announced that they had garnered more than 100k votes. The bride-to-be kept tearing in joy (ngan-sap-sap) for the next half an hour, I tell you. So happy.
RM100k man… so happy for them. They earned it well! Through this event, I learned so much more about the couple. They were indeed really humble. The groom spoke so well, he was audible and addressed all members of the floor. He represented his wife-to-be / pharmacist in the media interview. So I mentioned earlier, the Director of Marcom of BHR spoke so highly of them that they had humble beginnings. They came from small towns in Malaysia and had met in NUS, Singapore. He spoke so well, he lifted quotes like how motivational speakers do, explaining their road to success through their perseverance and believing in themselves that they would eventually win. (P/S: Looks like they applied “The Secret.”) Intelligent couple. Actually all couples were intelligent professionals. Currently residing in Singapore, they travelled to KL alot just for this competition and Kelvin revealed that he was going to sit for an exam next week. Imagine all the effort they put in. In the slideshow presentation revealing website statistics, the fifth highest number of viewers came from Finland, must be the location in Europe where Kelvin said he had garnered votes from his friends overseas. Wow. I wish them all the best. Free wedding for them, woohoo!
In fact, I wish all the participating couples all the best. Well done for all.
I tagged some friends on the question:
“Should we look for love, wait for love or let destiny take its course?
Two replied: Racheal Tan and Poonam.
I’m really into reality shows man and am waiting for the build-up of Malaysian Dreamgirl.

Thank you so much, Kim Ong! It’s our great pleasure to meet you that day. You look fabulous in person. We wish you and Josiah a blissful life ahead!
Congrats to Kelvin & Kimberly! You guys are just lovely.
