Please meet Eyeshadow (formerly known as Jackson – one of the Jackson 5′s) my new friend I’ve grown attached to. Eyeshadow ate up the other 4 Jacksons or something like that. Without realising, it’s been a year now. The day Michael Jackson looked down from heaven and saw Josiah and I get officially married. The following day was our church blessing reception and the next day, our wedding dinner reception. One year has past.
Those days being single was not too long ago, yet Josiah and I are not ready to have children yet. We’re targeting two more years.
My entourage at my hen’s night. It just felt like it was less than a year ago.
Josiah and I promised to take care of each other till death do us part.
It was lovely, it was a dream. It was a happy occasion.
Please ignore my extreme skinny-self. This was one year ago, yo!
A common question is, “How’s married life, Kim?” My answer varies but always presents the same point – being married posts its own challenges. It’s a life-long partnership. We have gotten along pretty well so far and our arguments have been minor. We have disagreements and through our many similarities, we have quite a fair bit of differences but we mostly laugh about how silly we can be the next day and we’re closing the gap of our differences. That’s how it is, not all flowery. It’s just the first year and so many more to come. Josiah and I have witnessed many relationships collapse and we can only learn from that. It makes us wonder if we should look at others as role-models for our relationships. I guess we have my Supermom and Superdad as example of a really loving couple. Yet, we don’t know what the future holds. We can only be optimistic. Josiah and I have been through a few challenges this year, and are still going through them. Long-distance relationship is one of them through his 5-months Japan Keirin stint and he is due to be home end of July. I haven’t really felt it yet as I had been so busy with other things. Settling into Melbourne officially poses another challenge as well. Something bad happened early this year making me switch plans and I had to take a few months the hard way. I am pretty much settled although still keeping my fingers crossed and can only hope for the best. As a result, I indulge in pole-dance and keep working away to keep my mind free of such challenges. When I’m ready, I might explain and you might be in shock. Josiah being away has been challenging, then there’s the bit of worrying (behind my neck) of how he really is in Japan. It gets better and better. I worry lesser and lesser now because we’re both pretty independent individuals. Then, sometimes to make matters worse, I have friends who lament to me how long it is before I get to see Josiah, “Omg, he’s coming back end of July? That’s like 5 months away! I don’t know how you can do it. Aren’t you afraid that…You know you should go to Japan too…blablablabla (insert fire here)” I used the word “lament” because it seemed as if they felt more sorry for me than I feel sorry for myself being in my position. “Didn’t you foresee this would happen (LDR) before you got together with him?” I was asked this question just today, to which I just felt like replying (rolls eyes) “Oh no, I didn’t foresee this. I imagined Josiah to be with me 24/7, cradling or hugging me the whole time.” Instead, I explained how important I felt it was to understand his position as a sportsman and how can I not support him, because I have chosen this path. Times are changing. Of course it is! I’m sure everyone reading this have had their partners leave town for at least a few days. Work makes people travel! How do you manage absence? If not now, maybe later. How will you manage absence? Blablablah, it’s been four months Josiah’s been away and he’ll be back in four weeks time! Really soon, and we’ve just been so busy. We have our short-term goals to achieve for these few early years and we’re working really hard towards that.
I can only pray that God will continue to bless us and keep us safe in His arms just before our photo turns old to look like this…
And before you know it, it will be another year, and another….and another…. Happy Wedding Anniversary, Josiah. It’s been and is nice being married to you. I love you always. Just a quick one, I’m so excited to share with you the winners of Pole Divas Unleashed 2010 at Room 680 on Glenferie Road, Hawthorn. Beginner: Amy Handley People’s Choice Winner: Rebecca Tsang Absolutely amazing performances, really well-deserved winners! Me? I’m so glad I did it. In terms of scoring, apparently I came in 3rd out of 5 finalists in my Intermediate category. Definitely a start, out of 17 initially auditioned. How I’m feeling right now? Relieved and absolutely tired. Would have been a plus if I made it to the end, but I managed my expectations. Absolutely nerve-wrecking behind-the-scenes because this was my first ever pole dance competition and it incorporates acrobatic + gymnastic + ballet moves. Now, moving forward (the strategist in me prevails), I have to build up my strength for next year’s amateur competition. If I’m up to mark by then, I will enter a larger competition later. I want to be in the international arena someday. A little ambitious, but hey… there’s always a chance somewhere, there’s always hope, there’s always motivation. The past two weeks have just been zap-zap-zap for me. Everything came up at the same time. This is Red Bull talking by the way, and also the-very-relieved-Pole-Diva. Josiah, I did it for you too (apart from me teehee) !!! Don’t say I’m weak okay. I’m athletic too! ;) And next time when I enter a competition, you better be around! You really should have been there. Here are some photos behind-the-scenes.

This was me during the competition. Only one photo. I’m still not going to put up a video of me dancing. *grins* Thanks Mauricio for the photo! Waiting up on Pole Divas’ official photography. Teehee. Good fun. Oh you know what’s unusual. I happened to take photos of all those who really won! It’s as if the winners were my prediction. As for the winner of my category, I couldn’t get hold of the winner Megan as she wasn’t around at all when I held my camera. She was a petite, strong and quirky competitor. Thanks all who have sent me well-wishes from near and afar. See title above. Yes, it’s tonight, the big night! I’ll get to wear the sash and receive a whole lot of other prizes as well. Hopefully I can make it to the end. I mean, at first I didn’t think I could get into the finals but now that I could get in there, I might as well give myself some motivation that being in the competition, I could win as well, if I give it my best shot tomorrow. Well, fingers crossed. If you’re in Melbourne and you’d like to support me, go to Room 680 in Hawthorn tomorrow night for the Unleashed 2010. Come give me your support. Tickets can be bought at the door. Thank you all for the well-wishes. I will give it my best shot! Please click on photos for more information. I’m a Pole Diva and I know what I want. |
