Ten years ago, I didn’t think I would be able to do this.

It’s possible, and I’m not ready to give up yet. I’ve never been this fit before, and I’m not fit enough.

Samsung Global Blogger

When I saw this Samsung Global Blogger competition online, I tweeted in to #SamsungGlobalBlogger saying I would definitely join it. I logged on to their website at:

http://samsungglobalblogger.my.msn.com

The Samsung Global Blogger finalists are going to win:

  • A trip to London during the Olympics, including flights.
  • TWO free Olympics tickets
  • A Samsung Galaxy Note and a Samsung Phone
  • A week’s full stay at a hotel in Chelsea & Westminster with all the other Samsung Global Bloggers
  • An invite to a VIP party
  • Plus they could be featured on a billboard in London’s Piccadilly Circus

At that time of competition entry, I saw Jamie Oliver’s promotional video on this competition. Then, I knew it was going to be huge. Samsung had collaborated with MSN on this project. Jamie, if you’re reading this – please know that I loveeee your cooking (I’m like the gazillionth person to say this!?) and that I’ve been receiving many hits on my blog entry about your cucumber salad recipe I made.

It is a perfect opportunity for me to go to London! So, I started practising in front of my own laptop video and came up with a video, recorded an impromptu one and submitted it right away.

Alas, it didn’t go through and my entry got denied.

In fact, it got denied 9 times! When I received the first disapproval message, I asked myself:

- Have I been disqualified because I mentioned Josiah’s name and his position in my video? Is it an advantage or disadvantage for me in this competition?
- Was the video perhaps too pixelated? I couldn’t think of any other reasons why it would not be approved because I did ensure I read the Terms and Conditions properly and the video was in the right video format under 30 seconds.

So, I emailed to enquire. Apparently the video just didn’t get submitted – wrong format. Then, I did my homework and asked around several familiar faces of those who successfully submitted theirs. It apparently works better if I changed the video format into a particular type and use a different browser. Aha!

But…the whole weekend and the wait for approval was really getting me worked up so I decided to create another video. I told myself to buck up if I really wanted to win this competition!

So, I went to the gym where Malaysian track cyclists Josiah Ng, Azizulhasni Awang and Fatehah Mustapa trained and started recording this video. The earlier part of the video was shot at home. It is not my first time editing a movie via such readily available tools through my computer but it’s definitely been a while. I was having so much fun recording and producing the video.

It had to be a 30-second video and I could only provide a preview to my next video (only if chosen!). Pray for me to be the top 20 finalists, will you – and I will promise to make a nice video, fulfilling my earlier promise in the video – to feature athletes and give you the inside scoop.

==========================================================================================

I had to squeeze all of the above text in a short paragraph as the entry permitted limited number of characters – hence the short forms. If I had to go on about why I should be chosen as a Samsung Global Blogger, I would definitely elaborate more and the reasons are endless!

1.  I can use Samsung products (apparently winners will get free Samsung) Hellooooooo sexy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2. I get to see the Olympics and meet with athletes! Imagine seeing them in action with sweat trickling down their faces, emotions of all sorts and people celebrating after their win! Josiah was telling me stories about his lunch session with Djokovic – telling me how he was in person and so much more!

3. I will get to publish videos tagged “London Olympics 2012″ because Samsung Global Blogger project would permit it via their portal! How awesome is that! I was too afraid of putting up videos of Beijing Olympics 2011 back then via YouTube, they obviously have the rights to Olympics – the word and content. As in, real videos of Josiah featuring Yao Ming and him interviewing the Chinese dancers before marching out. Ahaaaaa!

4. I will get to meet talented individuals – if you’ve not seen the quality of the submission entries already including participants from other countries – awesome! I just love meeting new people.

5. I will get to be mentored to use the Samsung products to video blog, “type-blog” / social media-post. I will also be mentored on how to shoot videos and appear on videos! Reporting tips 101!  I wonder who are the celebrity judges who will be the mentors? I’m excited to find out!

What happens next?

Entries have closed. I’ll have to find out who the judges are and check out the Samsung Global Blogger video show, launching on May 16, 2012.The show will feature all the drama of the judges choosing who makes it to the final, the winners being put through their paces at the Samsung Global Blogger bootcamp, and a daily show featuring the best of the videos created by the winning bloggers during the Olympics.

Can you just imagine Jamie Oliver and David Beckham looking at my video! If they are indeed the judges. Now I’m nervous… I feel like an athlete already.
