Merry Christmas 2010!

Merry Christmas to all my friends, family and readers reading this. Thank you for dropping by my blog, for all your comments (good and bad) thusfar, making my blog interesting. I hope 2011 will be a better year for all of us and I certainly hope to improve my blog.

Last year, we spent Christmas in Hawaii, this year we’re back in Malaysia. Our own tradition is to have a photo in front of a Christmas tree on a yearly basis. This is our shot this year in Parkroyal Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Earlier today, Josiah and I joined our immediate family members with my sister’s in-laws for a Christmas Eve dinner. We cooked-in with roast chicken, sipped wine, salad, my mushroom spaghetti and so on. I’m so full now.

Table set for us all with my sister’s in-laws.

My specialty for the night – Spaghetti Al Funghi. Olive-oil based with chilli flakes, herbs and garlic. Lots of shiitake mushrooms (fried with garlic and salt initially) and capsicums (for some colour). Oh yummy. Finished.

Supermom’s specialty – roast chicken.

Dad’s salad was also quite a hit – first to go. Mayo + olive oil + sea salt + honey + black pepper + balsamic vinegar. Main ingredients were lettuce and capsicum.

It was the first finished dish!

There were other dishes too like pork knuckles, assorted sausages and lamb. I thought I was going to eat very little that night, unfortunately I could not!

Christmas was fun with Andrea Bocelli’s DVD concert playing on TV. Ah, that was when my sister and Josiah danced around the house. Christmas is tradition. It brings people together.

And then, we exchanged gifts.

Teeheehee.

The highlight of the night, when opening our presents. I received my ultimate 2010 Christmas gift from myjojo.

The ultimate professional Canon PowerShot S90 suitable for a digital camera user like me who wants the best quality, closest to a SLR but refuses the bulky SLR. Canon Zoom Lens 3.8X IS. Woohoo! I love it, my Christmas presents from myjojo are always so well-thought out. He knows that my current Canon Digital IXUS 200 IS looks pretty ‘beat-up’ and I deserve a change. I use my digital camera as often as I use my phone, if not more! I bought Josiah a miniature hand-made metal antique-looking bicycle display. More bicycle stuff at home!

We are off to Malacca tomorrow to the Malaysian National Cycling Federation. Merry Christmas!

By the way, here’s a lovely Christmas song to dedicate to you for being so lovely.

SHIMONA KEE – IT CAME UPON A MIDNIGHT CLEAR

This is Josiah’s cousin Shimona Kee from Singapore I blogged about before three Christmas ago here. She blogs at www.shimonakee.com. Proceeds from the purchase of this EP ‘Christmas Lights’ goes to charity In Search of Sanuk. You may also follow her on her Facebook. So soothing her voice. I can now go to sleep nicely with this lullaby.

Cinderella in 50s Style

Sampailah Sitirella hilang kasutnya. Kami menjadi “skuad memburu harta”, memburu kasut Siti yang hilang! Masih tidak terjumpa. *keluh*

“I lost my shoe! Who would want to steal one side of my shoe?”

Itulah dia, kisah Sitirella di malam ayam.

It Is Easy To Put On Weight in Malaysia

This is very Chinese indeed, most common to share dishes laid on the table in front of us. Everyone gets to dig into the dish to have a bite. Usually, for cleanliness sake, there is a spoon for every dish. This is good for variety and it is quite an interesting concept (not many Westerners can get used to) to establish communication within the big round table.

Something I crave for very often, is seafood because it’s generally more expensive in Melbourne. Whilst Josiah is not within my vicinity yet, I quickly savoured some before I get deprived of seafood as Josiah’s not a fan of seafood!

Of course I had to “attack” the head first. I know it’s kind of gross to have the head sitting on your plate of rice like that, but to me it’s really yummy!

Herbal steamed chicken.

Fried Kailan.

Egg Yolk Crabs.

Thankfully, I’m going for a pole-dance session here tomorrow so I get to exercise off the seafood in me! :)

DongZhi Festival

Honestly, I’ve never had tangyuen before. It’s never been a family tradition.

Oh yum. Josiah, there are still some left for you!

Traditionally, the Dongzhi Festival is also a time for the family to get together. One activity that occurs during these get togethers is the making and eating of tangyuan (湯圓) or balls of glutinuous rice, which symbolize reunion. Tangyuan are made of glutinuous rice flour and sometimes brightly coloured. Each family member receives at least one large tangyuan in addition to several small ones. The flour balls may be plain or stuffed. They are cooked in a sweet soup or savoury broth with both the ball and the soup/broth served in one bowl. It is also often served with a mildly alcoholic unfiltered rice wine containing whole grains of glutinous rice (and often also Sweet Osmanthus flowers). (Source: Wikipedia)

Marche x Ray Of Hope Charity Dinner

My immediate family members and I went to support a charity organisation called Ray Of Hope, a joint social project of St.Peter’s Church, Ipoh and St.Augustine’s Church, Buntong, Ipoh. It is a nonprofit centre (since 2001) to train and help children with learning disabilities within the age group of 6 – 19 years old.

The charity dinner was in collaboration with Marche Restaurant at The Curve, PJ (Malaysia). 20% of sales for the day went to Ray Of Hope.

European market-style, you have a passport and you stamp whatever you order from stalls and pay at the checkout. Self-service.

The ambience is great with lots of Christmas decorations!

In fact, why is it that Kuala Lumpur has better Christmas ambience than in Melbourne? I wonder why!

My sister the poser queen ;) Spent my last few days with her.

Everything is fresh!

You can queue up and wait 5 minutes for your food.

Food’s yummy, of course!

My family members.

Grilled salmon, mashed potatoes and some salad.

Garlic bruschetta and pesto.

Donations in exchange for balloons, anyone?

Love the waitresses’ cute outfits!

Ohhhhh scary!

My Godma, Datin Mary Yeoh, founder of Ray Of Hope.

She also led the carollers.

Joy to the world!!!

Bishop Ng Moon Hing.

Us sisters with Godparents Datuk Dr. Yeoh Beng San and Datin Mary Yeoh.

Love family dinners. Missed them a lot while I was in Melbourne. Though my sister and I are both married, we still come  together as a family once again like old times without the husbands. ;) We’re mummy and daddy’s little girls once again.
