Looks like I’m doing a backbend in these two photos joined together!

Grad Solutions Gladly Helps Grads

Remember my last entry on GradSolutions and some quick tips on what to do and not to do during a job interview a few blog entries ago? Well, there was a career fair recently for RMIT, Melbourne University and Monash University. GradSolutions was one of the participating booths at all the events and garnered alot of interest from current students and graduates alike from all over the world. In fact, GradSolutions caters best to overseas graduates who have great qualifications and potential but lacks the extra tiny little gap that would get them employed. It is not all about the permanent residency status, it is not all about the qualification. It could be the aura, the presence, the demeanour or simply the resume. Something might not be right in the process of getting hired.

Taken from the GradSolutions website:

- We’ll show you where to find jobs in your industry in an EFFICIENT and EFFECTIVE approach
- How to find hidden jobs in a highly competitive employment market
- How to maximize your personal selling ability, on paper and in person
- We’ll educate and train you to perform beyond expectations
- Access to a team of experienced Senior Consultants Comprehensive Member Support helpdesk

I helped to promote GradSolutions at their career fair since they invited. Why not? No, I don’t work with GradSolutions on a day-to-day basis.

Some items passed out, information on GradSolutions.

Students filled in the form so they can  be contacted.

More students at the Melbourne Uni career fair.

The ladies at the career fair, bearing in mind that the t-shirt worn was to represent the company name in its efforts for logo branding. Their day-to-day work wear is absolutely professional, well because the service is backed with only professionals.

The process?

Note: Don’t laugh at my drawing, please! I’m a little rusty with the pen!

Feeling dejected and inadequate because of not being hired let alone being called for an interview? Fear not, GradSolutions will gladly find a solution for you. Just contact them on their website at www.gradsolutions.com.au and fill in the enquiry form. They will contact you back and call for an initial consultation, free of charge and understand your position. Then, they will help you decide on the package you need.

General assumption is that nobody needs a professional service like this, but bearing in mind that no service is setup (or company) without identifying the needs of students (especially international ones) who are disadvantaged because they are not locals in Melbourne and they need to close the gaps that would help them get hired. The price paid by the hundreds is not scam when proper training is provided step-by-step. The service is agreed upon and confidence is guaranteed.

If you’re not hired yet, time to consider doing something about it. If you can spend your moolah on buying clothes and make-up or toys, you might want to invest in some training that lasts a lifetime. I don’t think you’ll be hired only once in your entire lifetime unless you’re like my father who entered a large brewery company, and retired in that same company after 26 years! It is your call.

Braces: The End

I can’t believe just how ugly my teeth were!

Without realising, I had worn braces for a year and a half and two months of wearing my retainers. Indeed time flies and my teeth do move really quickly. Whoever invented braces during those early days – Aristotle, Hippocrates or whoever (article here) really did an amazing job. Having straight teeth really does make a difference. Lessens health problems and also improves eating, talking, smiling and laughing. *grins*

Not like I have the best looking teeth right now, but at least they are properly alligned and to think I spent a whopping approx RM9.5k is just crazy (slightly more expensive due to Australian orthodontic monthly consultations) but worth it. This amount includes the extractions of teeth.

My last consultation was with the Australian orthodontist and he did not charge me after looking at my teeth, returned me my teeth mould made by my Malaysian orthodontist and wished me well.

Wait, I’m Not Really A Waitress!

I found it really intriguing that “I’m Not Really A Waitress” is the name of one of the latest design Colours by O.P.I for Dell Design Studio in their Studio 15 range. Seriously, I’m not really a waitress.

Kim_Dell

I’m a multi-tasker with today’s technology. I’m also vain because my outlook defines me. Under the lacquered satin red nail polish lies a strong and bold personality in me. I’m not really a waitress.

“A vivacious chianti red. Living in LA puts me in the heart of the entertainment industry, where you can see celebs and celebutantes just by grabbing a latte. My inspiration behind I’m Not Really a Waitress, OPI’s best-selling shade of all time, is the response you hear from every would-be actress who is waiting tables until her big break comes along. Created for the OPI Hollywood Collection, this is one shade that’s totally ready for its close-up! “

Josiah would suit the “Korakrit Arunanondchaiheuk” Design. Oh yes, I’ll give you 50 cents if you manage to say that name very fast without making a mistake and without pausing the first time. That’s the name of the design, but it is not called “I’m Not Really A Cyclist”.

I love how they encourage designers to be a part of Dell by submitting their best laptop designs (skins) for competition. Recently, their “Make It Yours” Design Studio attracted tons of budding designers in Malaysia. I must say there are a lot of talented young folks out there. Here are some designs to highlight that are my personal favourites.

    AhmadFakhry

    by Ahmad Fakry

Well, I must say that red, black, grey and white are my favourite colours and I have a thing for swirls. They’re not only pretty, they’re fluid which represent movement and it’s like a dance.

    FaridDzulfitry

    by Farid Dzulfitry

This one is really metaphorical, a brain tree with ideas branching out. It’s bold and urban, I love it!

    HazeLong

    by Haze Long

You like rubiks? Colours splashing out of the rubiks cube. Like a vomit of letters.

    Kynki

    by Kynki

How cute and intricate it is!

    SafWan

    by Saf Wan

I also love circles mixed with swirls. Reminds me of the 5bling logo I designed for Josiah!

    TanShiYun

    by Tan Shi Yun

If there is anything to change in the image, the girl behind the butterfly should be me, possible?

    WINNING DESIGNS

Now are you ready for the ultimate winning design?

    Amirul

WINNING DESIGN – best entry as selected by promoter: Old Style by Amirul Hasrie who wins a laptop with his own design on it and vouchers.

I wonder if Amirul was inspired by the bathroom tiles or something. Makes me wonder the mental state of mind the artist was in at that point in time while working on this. Indeed, the earth needs more green, so let’s fill it up with more green because it is a joint effort to layer the bricks. Now, if that makes sense. What do you think?

    SinOngToh

WINNING DESIGN – most popular design by vote: Dell by Sin Ong Toh who wins vouchers.

Do you see the word DELL in the design?

See what I mean by talent. Really inspiring indeed.

    I Don’t Shop That Often

Esther and I had a fascination for hats, fascinators, gloves and shawl this particular day when we were out shopping for a new pair of work shoes for me. I think we spent forever trying out the different sizes and looks, I suddenly remembered that my female inner-sense prevailed to condone me in shopping but the savvy wife me (and Esther) curbed me from buying things I probably won’t be wearing that often. They say, if you have not worn your outfit in 6 months, you really ought to get rid of it totally.
